John Stovin

John started his career in computing writing BASIC programs on a Commodore PET, back when floppy disks really were floppy.

Amongst his academic achievements are a BTeC Diploma in Electronic Musical Instrument Technology from the London College of Furniture(!), and a BSc. in Computer Engineering and an MSc. in Computer Science, both from the University of Manchester. He has spent the subsequent years developing Windows applications for many fields, including industrial control systems, automotive diagnostics and networking. He has been a C++ developer since his University days, but in the last few years he has developed a widening interest in .NET, and in dynamic languages (particularly Python).

Before he joined CherSoft in 2009, he spent the previous 10 years developing DVD authoring systems in Sheffield. As part of this job he was an active member of the DVD-Forum, travelling regularly to the US and Japan to thrash out the (now sadly defunct) HD-DVD specification. As a result, he is now the holder of a completely useless patent.

John is also an Associate Lecturer at Hallam University in the Department of Computing, where he occasionally tries to communicate his enthusiasm for Agile Development. When he’s not doing that, he can usually be found at home in the Peak District with his wife and two daughters, vainly trying to improve his guitar technique.
